— The three levels
Support connection, coordination of supports or specialist?
NDIS support coordination is funded at three levels. Level 1, Support Connection ($80.06/hour) helps you learn to connect with supports yourself. Level 2, Coordination of Supports ($100.14/hour) is the common one — a coordinator who organises and maintains your supports. Level 3, Specialist Support Coordination ($190.54/hour) is for high-complexity situations and is usually time-limited. All three are funded from the Capacity Building budget in your plan.

How to tell which one you have
Open your plan at the Capacity Building section and read the line items. The wording matters more than the dollar figure: "Support Connection" is Level 1, "Coordination of Supports" is Level 2, "Specialist Support Coordination" is Level 3. Some plans fund a dollar amount without naming the level clearly — if yours does, send it to us and we will tell you what it is.
When each level is the right fit
- Level 1 suits a participant with a settled situation and a simple plan who mainly needs help getting started and understanding the system.
- Level 2 suits most people: several supports to coordinate, providers to find, agreements to keep straight, and a plan review to prepare for.
- Level 3 suits situations where more than the NDIS is involved — a hospital admission, housing about to fall over, a behaviour support plan being written, or repeated provider breakdowns.
Asking for a different level
The request goes in at a plan review, or as a variation if something has changed. What makes it succeed is written evidence: what you tried, what failed, what it cost in health, housing or safety terms. Vague requests get declined; documented ones usually do not.
Common questions about the levels
What are the three levels of NDIS support coordination?
Level 1 is Support Connection, Level 2 is Coordination of Supports and Level 3 is Specialist Support Coordination. Level 1 helps you connect with supports and build your own capacity to do it. Level 2 is the common one: a coordinator who organises and maintains your supports. Level 3 is for high-complexity situations and is usually time-limited.
Which level am I funded for?
Open your plan and look under Capacity Building. The line item will say Support Connection, Coordination of Supports or Specialist Support Coordination. If none appear, coordination is not currently funded and you can ask for it at your next review.
Can I move between levels?
Yes, at a plan review or through a variation if circumstances change. Moving up usually needs evidence of complexity — crossing systems, risk, repeated breakdowns. Moving down happens when things stabilise, which is the intended direction.
Do the levels cost different amounts?
Yes. The 2026-27 price limits are $80.06 per hour for Level 1, $100.14 for Level 2 and $190.54 for Level 3. All are claimed from the Capacity Building budget in your plan, so none of them cost you anything out of pocket.
